The official description is short, and this guide keeps it short on purpose. A new player can do the whole round from these sentences. Anything past them — a named fish, a cash-per-second number, a shield timer — is not on the hub, so it is not a step below.

Money, in that description, comes from the collection. The leaderboard, in that description, comes from stealing rare fish. Visiting another stash is how you see what to steal. Defending the house is how you answer the same action when it is aimed at you. The tunnel is where the fish you buy appear.

Leave the plot only after one purchased fish is in the collection. The developer text says the collection is what generates Money. A base with nothing placed is not earning while you walk around an 8-player server.

Do not hunt for a secret first purchase. No species, price, or spawn timer is stored on this site. The tunnel is the shop the description names. Buy a fish you can place, then come back to the tunnel when the collection has started generating Money.

The next action is a visit, not a steal. The description separates 'see their fish stash' from 'steal rare fish'. Look first so you know you are taking something the game is treating as rare, then get it back to your house.
